Hi,

The article about the Floppy Disk as Save icon meme got me to thinking "What would we use to replace it now in this modern era?"

I’ve been around long enough to have used Floppies so I can’t think of anything nowadays that could be used as a substitute. You can’t even use a CD/DVD icon cause those are pretty much obsolete as well. Any ideas?

Funny story....in college back in the ‘80s, my roommate had an Apple IIe with dual floppy disk drives. These were the 5.25" floppies that were actually floppy. Another friend was trying to load a disk into the drive and he was sort of hesitating. I was bewildered because it’s a pretty straightforward process to open the drive door and insert the disk. It turns out he thought the disk was like a record album and he was trying to take the "record" out of the "album" sleeve. It’s a good thing we stopped him before he could succeed.
