Facebook FB +0.93% COO Sheryl Sandberg isn’t the only executive at the social network making a point of openly discussing work-life balance. The social media giant’s cofounder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post on Friday that he plans to take two months of paternity leave upon the arrival of his and wife Priscilla Chan’s baby daughter. “Every day things are getting a little more real for us, and we’re excited to start this next stage in our lives,” Zuckerberg said in his post. “Studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, outcomes are better for the children and families.” Zuckerberg noted that Facebook employees in the U.S. can take up to four months of paid maternity or paternity leave, which they can take throughout the year. He included a photo in his post of the couple’s dog next to a baby seat. The Facebook CEO’s move stands in contrast to that Tesla CEO Elon Musk allegedly sent to an employee, chiding the worker for choosing to attend the birth of his child over a work event. Reporter Ashlee Vance included the anecdote in his book on the technology pioneer, though Musk publicly denied the claim. Zuckerberg’s move could raise questions among investors regarding how decision-making will be structured during his leave. The company did not file any documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission disclosing Zuckerberg’s time off. It’s also unclear if Sandberg will take on more responsibilities with Zuckerberg away. “Mark and Priscilla, I’m so excited for both of you,” Sandberg said in a Facebook comment on Friday. “Enjoy the precious early months with your daughter — I can’t wait to meet her.”
