Independence Day in India
15th August is celebrated as Independence Day with great fanfare and celebration, in India. And if you are wondering about what is independence day? It took us almost two hundred years to gain independence from the British. Initially ruled by the British East India Company and used in order to profit them, India, was shifted so as to be ruled by the crown itself after the First War of Independence of 1857. This meant instead of a company devouring the country’s riches, an entire country would do so now. India had become a colony of the British. If you do not have any about which independence day 2017,it would be 71th independence day. Many independence day offers in india and independence day sale india launch by making indian shopping times celebrating the occasion of freedom.
This year in 2017, India will celebrate its 71th Independence Day to pay tribute and remember all the freedom fighters who had contributed a lot and fought for the Independence of India.
History :-
India was colonised entirely for the profit of the Britishers. All resources were extracted and taken by them. Even priceless jewels like the Kohi-noor was taken. And most importantly they treated Indians with contempt. They believed that they were far superior because of their farer skin colour.Even the Indians serving at the same post as a Britisher, in the army, weren’t given equal pay. And there was a glass ceiling, so that no official of Indian origin could rise above arank.
But these were not the worst, the worst was the oppression. Under the British rule, India was completely at the mercy of the British. They could kill and main at their own free will. Looking back at the Jalianwala Bagh Massacre, where Michael O'Dwyer fired indiscriminately on an unarmed crowd, only in order to strike terror into Indians, we realise the amount of hatred Britishers had for Indians and that the entire aim was to scare us and exploit us as long as possible. Many people celebrate this big day by sending independence day images for whatsapp in this generation.
Revolt :-
However, you cannot keep countrymen of a country as large as India stifled for long. Revolts soon broke out in various parts of India, and the acts of numerous brave men who had no fear of their own lives, helped keep the fire burning in the hearts of people. They made people believe, that if we fight long enough, the British will be forced to go back.
It was eventually in 1946, that British Prime Minister Attlee decided that after the conclusion of the 2nd World War, Britishers neither had the resources, nor the support to keep trying to have Indians under their control. The civil disobedience movement was proving the hardest to control, and it was largely accepted that British violence could no longer keep Indians in check and that people were no more scared of dying is the time when india got freedom. In fact, Indians were so restless at that time and so tired of the British government that they would readily give up their lives, if they could only drive away the British in return.
Why 15 august was chosen as Independence Day :-
15th of August 1947 was the Day when British eventually handed out India to whom it belonged to-the Indians, and that is when India got her Independence, but partition killed more than 1000000 men and women and the violence took away most of the joy. People on both sides of the border were killed in plentiful numbers. If you want to know how many Independence days India celebrated, that would be 71, and who hoisted the flag on Independence Day? That would be our first Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru.
The Future :-
Today India is independent, and the President of India is Pranab Mukherhjee. To know why we celebrate Independence Day, you have to look back at how difficult it was for us to gain independence from the British and how they tortured us. Today India is independent from the British rule, but are we Independent from the elements that drove us down? Are we independent from corruption, nepotism, superstitions and violence? Maybe that is the Independence that we truly need.
